DAR ES SALAAM, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania's weather watchdog on Monday night issued an alert over a five-day severe weather impact in nine mainland regions and parts of the Zanzibar archipelago.

The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) said in its weather advisory that heavy rains were expected to begin on April 1 through April 5.

The advisory said the rains were expected in Iringa, Njombe, Morogoro, Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Manyara, Dar es Salaam, Coast and Tanga regions.

The weather forecast said the five-day heavy rains were also expected on the Island of Mafia in Coast region, and the twin Islands of Pemba and Unguja in Zanzbar.

TMA said the rains were expected to cause flooding disrupting transport and businesses in the regions.

Rains this month have swept away at least 3,500 houses and 6,600 hectares of farms in Tanzania's Rufiji district in the Coast Region. Enditem
