TOKYO, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened sharply lower Wednesday, tracking losses on Wall Street overnight, as downbeat consumer sentiment data for March punctuated the rising economic impact from the coronavirus pandemic.

As of 9:15 a.m. (local time), the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 370.87 points, or 1.96 percent, from Tuesday to 18,546.14.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 23.84 points, or 1.70 percent, at 1,379.20.

Air transportation, land transportation and mining issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
