Ethiopia's confirmed covid-19 cases rise to 29

ADDIS ABABA, April 1 (Xinhua) -- The Ethiopia Ministry of Health Wednesday reported three new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total cases in the East African country to 29.

"The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) conducted 68 laboratory tests and three cases were confirmed for COVID-19, making the total cases 29," the Ethiopian Minister of Health, Lia Tadesse, disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday.

According to the Ethiopian health minister, all the three additional confirmed cases are Ethiopian nationals, in which the first patient is said to be a 33-years-old female Ethiopian with travel history to Djibouti, Brazil, India and her last travel was Congo Brazzaville.

The second of the latest COVID-19 cases were said to be a 26-years-old male Ethiopian with no travel history. However, had contact with travelers. According to the Ethiopian ministry of health, the third patient had contact history with a previously confirmed person and he was in the isolation center for medical follow up.

"Upon the development of symptoms, all of them were in isolation center under medical follow up and laboratory test confirmed positive for COVID-19," the Ethiopian health minister said.

The Ethiopian health minister also stressed that all of the patients are under treatment in the designated treatment center in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, while people who had contact with the patients are under follow up and further contact tracing is ongoing.

Currently there are 25 COVID-19 cases in the treatment center and two of the patients are kin critical condition, while two other cases have recovered and are under isolation as a precautionary measure, according to Tadesse. Enditem
