ATHENS, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Greek Health Ministry spokesman Sotirios Tsiodras announced on Wednesday 81 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Greece in the last 24 hours and one new death.

Deaths toll rose to 50 since the start of the outbreak in the country on Feb. 26 while confirmed infections increased to 1,415, the spokesman said during a daily televised briefing on the epidemic.

Currently 90 patients were being treated in intensive care units, while six people have so far been discharged from ICUs.

As part of measures to contain the epidemic, Greece will also ban the flights of private aircrafts and helicopters, Nikos Hardalias, deputy minister for Civil Protection and Crises Management at the Ministry of Citizen Protection, told the press briefing, without elaborating.

Greece is in a two-week lockdown since March 23 after gradually closing schools, universities, restaurants, cafeterias, retail shops, gyms, cultural centers, parks and all places of worship.

In March, the authorities also suspended or restricted air, road, sea and train connections with many countries, such as Britain, Spain, Italy and Turkey. Enditem
