YANGON, April 7 (Xinhua) -- The Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industries (UMFCCI) will raise a fund for food supply to people in need during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to its announcement late Monday.
In the announcement, UMFCCI will raise a capital of 150 million kyats (107,143 U.S. dollars) for the fund to help the people in need as the impacts of COVID-19 are affecting businesses and income of the working class.
UMFCCI will work with its affiliated associations, businesses, donors and the union government to supply food for the working people, the announcement added.
In addition, UMFCCI will coordinate with state and regional government for these activities and welcomes donations in this regard from affiliated associations, executives and businesses.
According to a recent release of the Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment of COVID-19, the Myanmar government will soon provide basic essentials including rice, oil, salt, bean and onion to people in need from April 10 during the traditional Thingyan water festival.
At present, Myanmar has reported 22 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country so far. Enditem
