Laos confirms 2 more COVID-19 infected cases

VIENTIANE, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Laos tested 144 suspected cases with two cases tested positive, bringing the total number of the confirmed cases in Laos to 14.

Lao Deputy Minister of Health Phouthone Meaungpak told a press conference here on Tuesday that the two new cases include a 40-year-old man living in Vientiane, working in the same mining company with the 11th case announced on Sunday.

Another one is a 19-year-old woman, living in Vientiane who returned to Laos from Britain. She had a close contact with the 12th infected case announced on Monday, before they left Britain.

She doesn't have any flu-like symptoms, but she went to the Mittaphab Hospital for the COVID-19 test after Lao health official announced the 12th COVID-19 infected case.

The two new cases are treated in the designated hospital of Mittaphab Hospital (150 Hospital). Neither of them is in a serious condition, said Lao health officials.

As of Tuesday, Laos tested 765 suspected cases, with 14 cases tested positive.

The 11th case, a 55-year-old man from Papua New Guinea is currently in the intensive care unit at the Mittaphab Hospital. Other 13 cases are not in serious condition, Director of the Mittaphab Hospital Sanong Thongsana told the press conference.

Eleven cases are treated in the Mittaphab Hospital, the other three cases are treated in a provincial hospital in Luang Prabang province. The treatment is going well.

Laos detected the first two confirmed COVID-19 cases on March 24. Enditem
