KATHMANDU, April 7 (Xinhua) -- The Nepali government on Tuesday decided to extend the ongoing suspension of international flights on its sky until April 30, amid threat of COVID-19, a senior official of Nepali government said.

It is the second time that the Nepali government extended the deadline of flight suspension after first imposing the measure from March 22 to March 31. Earlier, the government had decided to extend the deadline of international flight suspension until April 15.

Narayan Bidari, secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, told the media that a meeting of the high level coordination committee headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Ishawar Pokharel to combat the COVID-19 on Tuesday decided to extend the ongoing suspension of international flight by 15 more days as precautionary measure against the pandemic.

Nepal has been allowing domestic and international flights for humanitarian assistance and medical supply with chartered flights. Many foreign tourists have already left for their home countries on chartered flights.

The Himalayan country has been enforcing a number of the measures including nationwide lockdown suspending movement of people from both land and air and shutting businesses. On Monday, Nepal's cabinet had extended the ongoing lockdown until April 15.

Nepal has so far reported nine confirmed cases of COVID 19. Enditem
