Laos reports 1 new COVID-19 case

VIENTIANE, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Laos has detected one more COVID-19 case, binging the total number in the country to 16, the Health Ministry said Thursday.

Lao Deputy Minister of Health Phouthone Meaungpak told a press conference in Lao capital Vientiane on Thursday that the new case involves a 23-year-old woman living in Vientiane, who had a close contact with the eighth infected case announced on March 28.

The patient is being treated in hospital, and her condition is not serious.

As of Thursday, Laos has tested 903 suspected cases, confirming 16 cases. Among them 13 are being treated in Mittaphab Hospital (150 Hospital) designated for the COVID-19 treatment while the other three are being treated in provincial hospital in Luang Prabang province.

The 11th case, a 55-year-old man from Papua New Guinea, is currently in the intensive care unit at Mittaphab Hospital, while other 15 cases are not in serious condition, according to Lao health officials.

Laos detected the first two confirmed COVID-19 cases on March 24. Enditem
