PHNOM PENH, April 9 (Xinhua) -- The Cambodia-China joint COVID-19 fight is an excellent example for cooperation among countries, said a Cambodian spokesman on Thursday.

Ek Tha, a spokesman for Cambodia's Council of Ministers, said when China was facing the most difficult time in fighting the COVID-19, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen made a special visit to Beijing on Feb. 5 to voice the kingdom's full support for China's fight against the virus.

He said recently, because the situation of COVID-19 in China has been brought under control, China has dispatched medical experts and supplies to Cambodia and other countries to help fight the virus.

"China's sending of its medical experts and supplies to Cambodia to fight the virus reaffirms that both countries are real iron-clad friends," he told Xinhua.

He said the Cambodia-China relationship goes perfectly with a slogan saying that "A friend in need is a friend indeed".

"The bilateral cooperation between the two nations sends a strong message to the outside world that Cambodia-China cooperation is an excellent model and should be copied by others for the common interest of the global humanity," Tha said.

Chheang Vannarith, president of the Asian Vision Institute, said China's medical assistance is very useful for Cambodia to fight the virus.

"China can play a critical role in assisting Cambodia to fight against the virus, both in terms of expertise and the supply of medical equipment such as test kits, ventilators, and protective gears for medical staff," he said.

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen said on Tuesday that mutual help between Cambodia and China in the time of COVID-19 has uplifted the bilateral relations to new heights.

He said China's medical aid is timely and very important to help the kingdom battle against the virus.

Cambodia has so far recorded a total of 118 confirmed cases of the COVID-19, with 68 patients cured, according to a Ministry of Health statement on Thursday. Enditem
