BEIJING -- Chinese stocks opened higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.37 percent to open at 2,825.84 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index opened 0.65 percent higher at 10,453.86 points.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 329.96 points, or 1.38 percent, to 24,300.33 points on Thursday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 24,045.18 and 24,308.69. Turnover totaled 93.89 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 12.11 billion U.S. dollars).

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher on Thursday.

The rally was seen in auto, telecom, consumer discretionary, finance, healthcare, and consumer durable space.

The benchmark S&P, BSE Sensex closed at 31,159.62, 1,265.66 points or 4.23 percent up compared to its previous close at 29,893.96.

BANGKOK, -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Thursday moved up 4.71 points, or 0.39 percent to close at 1,210.48 points.

Some 15.52 billion shares worth 83.66 billion baht (about 2.56 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Thursday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,369.76, up 8.37 points or 0.61 percent, and the Emas was at 9,469.91, up 58.64 points or 0.62 percent.

Turnover decreased to 4.71 billion shares valued at 2.25 billion ringgit Malaysia (519.63 million U.S. dollars), compared with 5.36 billion shares valued at 2.67 billion ringgit Malaysia (615.21 million U.S. dollars) on Wednesday.

JAKARTA -- The IDX Composite, an index of all stocks listed on the Indonesia's Stock Exchange (IDX) in Jakarta, closed at 4,649.08 points on Thursday, up by 22.38 points, or 0.48 percent against that in the previous trading day.

Approximately 7.39 billion shares worth more than 6.72 trillion Indonesian rupiahs (about 424.49 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 1.26 percent, or 31.88 points, to close at 2,571.32.

A total of 1.69 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.43 billion Singapore dollars (about one million U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 334 to 130.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand stock market's indicator, the S&P/NZX 50 index, dropped by 0.68 percent to 9,964 on Thursday.

The drop was led by New Talisman Gold Mines Limited, which went down by 14.29 percent to 0.006 NZ dollars (0.0036 U.S. dollars), while Marlin Global Limited jumped by 25 percent to 0.05 NZ dollars.

VIENTIANE -- The lao stock market closed on Thursday with a decrease of 0.32 percent compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 1.98 points, reaching 607.86 points after closing.

A total of 12,300 shares worth about 62,444 million Lao kip (nearly 6,963 U.S. dollars) changed hand at the stock market.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished lower on Thursday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index down 1.6 points, or 0.27 percent, to close at 595.23.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher Thursday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 29.07 points, or 1.61 percent, to settle at 1,836.21. Trading volume stood at 907.46 million shares worth 10.3 trillion won (8.4 billion U.S. dollars).

South Korea's currency finished at 1,219.5 won versus the greenback, up 1.4 won from the previous close.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market finished firmly higher on Thursday in a week shortened by the Easter holidays.

At the market close, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was up 180.40 points or 3.46 percent at 5,387.30, while the broader All Ordinaries index was up 180.60 points or 3.43 percent at 5,439.40.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed essentially flat on Thursday as the market extended its winning streak to a fourth day, although concerns over a spike in coronavirus cases in Tokyo weighed on the market mood.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged down 7.47 points, or 0.04 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 19,345.77.
