COVID-19 cases top 1,000 in Lithuania, with 23 deaths

VILNIUS, April 11 (Xinhua) -- The number of COVID-19 cases rose to 1,026 in Lithuania as of Saturday morning, passing the 1,000-case mark, according to data from the health ministry.

So far, 23 people have died and 54 have recovered, said the ministry, adding that a total of 38,472 tests have been carried out.

The first COVID-19 case was reported in the country on Feb. 28 and the first death occurred on March 21.

To further contain the spread of the virus, the Lithuanian government has extended the nationwide quarantine until April 27 with additional measures.

As of April 10, people are obliged to cover their nose and mouth in public and wearing personal protective equipment became mandatory. Enditem
