BEIRUT, April 13 (Xinhua) -- A number of hospitals in Mount Lebanon, namely Keserwan, will begin to shut down this week due to the cabinet's inability to pay its dues to these medical establishments, Lebanon Debate, a local news agency, reported on Monday.
"The cabinet is highly indebted to the medical sector amid a remarkable increase in the cost of operations given the hike in the price of U.S. dollar to the Lebanese pound," parliament member Ibrahim Kanaan tweeted on Monday.
Kanaan noted that hospitals in capital Beirut are also threatened to close while urging the finance ministry to pay hospitals' dues in installations to prevent a medical disaster in the country.
The closure of these hospitals come as the country is investing all its efforts in fighting against COVID-19.
Lebanon's number of COVID-19 infections increased on Monday to 632 cases while the virus has claimed the lives of 20 people in the country. Enditem
