HANOI -- At the virtual Special Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit on the COVID-19 on Tuesday morning, leaders of the 10 ASEAN member states affirmed that the block's current leading priority is controlling the COVID-19 pandemic and preventing it from spreading further.

The heads of state or government of the 10 ASEAN members, namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, and the ASEAN Secretary-General agreed that the countries should join hands with one another and with other nations to prevent the global pandemic from spreading further, with focus on preventing cross-border infections. MANILA -- The Philippines reported on Tuesday 291 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 5,223.

NEW DELHI -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended the countrywide Lockdown till May 3 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

India has been under the 21-day lockdown since March 25, which was planned to end Tuesday midnight, even as the number of deaths in the country rose to 339 and the total cases climbed to 10,363. (India-Lockdown-Extension)

SYDNEY -- New cases of COVID-19 in Australia continued to decline as of Tuesday, as people returned from an unusually subdued Easter holiday weekend.
