YANGON, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's Yangon regional government Tuesday filed lawsuits against four people including a pastor and a preacher for mass gatherings while 10 places in the region are on lockdown, government official told Xinhua.

One pastor, one preacher and two fellows have been sued under Myanmar's Natural Disaster Management Law, said Director Moe Hein of the regional government office.

The four hosted church services, which defied the government's instructions to avoid mass gatherings in fears of COVID-19 spread, said a release from the Yangon Region COVID-19 Control and Emergency Response Committee.

Meanwhile, ten places in eastern, western and northern districts of Yangon region including South Okkalapa, Mayangone, Bahan, Insein and Shwepyitha townships where COVID-19 confirmed patients reside, have been put under lockdown to curb the spread of the disease, the committee's release said.

At present, people in Yangon region are under stay-home period during the holidays of the traditional Thingyan Water Festival which was cancelled as part of the efforts to curb the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

Myanmar has reported 62 COVID-19 confirmed cases with four deaths as of early Tuesday, in 23 days since the disease was first detected in the country on March 23.

According to a recent release issued by the Health and Sports Ministry, the quarantine period has been extended to 28 days which include a 21-day facility quarantine and a 7-day home quarantine. Enditem
