KABUL, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan has reported 70 more cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of patients to 784 in the country, spokesman for the Public Health Ministry Wahid Mayar said Wednesday.

According to the spokesman, 31 out of the 70 newly confirmed positive cases are in Kabul, 22 in Herat and the remaining 17 cases are in other parts of the country.

A total of 25 patients have died and 43 others have recovered since the outbreak of the coronavirus in mid February, Mayar said.

To contain the pandemic, the government has put big cities including Kabul under quarantine since late last month, calling upon the people to stay at home. Enditem
