Botswana's COVID-19 cases rise to 20

GABORONE, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Botswana's Minister of Health and Wellness Lemogang Kwape on Sunday confirmed that COVID-19 cases in the southern African country have risen to 20 as five more have been confirmed.

In a routine COVID-19 update, Kwape said there was only one death despite an increase in confirmed cases.

"The registration of five new cases of COVID-19 has brought the total number of locally transmitted incidents to six from the previous three," said Kwape.

According to Kwape, the new cases are of two males aged 53 years and 30 years old, who had travelled to the United Kingdom. The other three cases are of a 35-year-old man and two females of 32 and 30 years old respectively who are close contacts of persons who tested positive before and recuperating at Sir Ketumile Medical School in Gaborone.

Meanwhile, Botswana will as from April 20, 2020 embarks on a massive screening and testing of people in order to ascertain the magnitude of the pandemic in the country. Enditem
