MUSCAT, April 20 (Xinhua) -- The Omani government decided Monday to extend lockdown of Muscat governorate until May 8 in a bid to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

This decision was taken by the Supreme Committee in charge of dealing with developments resulting from the spread of COVID-9.

The committee asked everyone to avoid gatherings of any kind during the Ramadan, the Muslim's fasting month, while stressing the continuation of the closure of mosques.

On April 8, the committee took a decision to lock down Muscat governorate from April 10 to April 22 to contain the spread of COVID-19.

According to the latest statement issued by the Ministry of Health, Oman has confirmed a total of 1,410 COVID-19 cases, including 238 recoveries and seven deaths. Enditem
