NOUAKCHOTT, April 20 (Xinhua) -- The second batch of medical donation from Jack Ma and Alibaba foundations to Mauritania was received Monday by Mauritanian Health Minister Dr. Mohamed Nedhirou Ould Hamed in Nouakchott.

"This second batch includes respirators, tests and other medical equipments," said the minister.

"This contribution reflects the level of cooperation between Mauritania and China. It is a cooperation that has covered decades of different sectors, including that of health, and which still benefits today from the generous support of Chinese economic operators to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic," he said.

"This precious aid will allow the country to strengthen its preventive means against this pandemic, in particular through analyzing and testing which will allow a more precise knowledge of the health situation," he added.

Chinese Ambassador to Mauritania Zhang Jianguo said this contribution supported the efforts made by the Mauritanian public health authorities to contain the spread of COVID-19.

"In these difficult times, China stands alongside Mauritania to support it in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic as exactly Mauritania had stood by China's side," Zhang said.

The first batch of medical donation from the Jack Ma Foundation and the Alibaba Foundation arrived in Mauritania on March 28.

According to the health ministry, Mauritania has no more active "positive case" of COVID-19 after four patients under treatment tested negative. Enditem
