BEIJING, April 22 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

GENEVA -- Swiss Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis on Tuesday called on neighboring countries and the European Union to proceed in a coordinated manner to ease COVID-19 restrictions as quickly as possible.
Speaking via video-conference with foreign ministers of Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein and Luxembourg, Cassis, also head of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, stressed that a crisis of this magnitude affecting all of Europe can only be tackled together.

WASHINGTON -- Director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Robert Redfield warned Tuesday that a second wave of the novel coronavirus will be far more dire because it is likely to coincide with the start of flu season, according to a report of The Washington Post.
"There's a possibility that the assault of the virus on our nation next winter will actually be even more difficult than the one we just went through," Redfield was quoted as saying. "And when I've said this to others, they kind of put their head back, they don't understand what I mean."

OTTAWA -- Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday announced 350 million Canadian dollars (about 246 million U.S. dollars) in emergency fund for community groups, charities and non-profits that help vulnerable people impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Emergency Community Support Fund is meant to help these groups and organizations keep up their work assisting the seniors, the homeless and others made more vulnerable by the pandemic.

RIYADH -- Chinese medical experts on Tuesday shared the prevention and control knowledge on the COVID-19 pandemic with the Chinese community in Saudi Arabia via webinar.
The webinar, hosted by the Chinese embassy in Saudi Arabia, was attended by Chinese-funded institutions, overseas Chinese and Chinese students in the kingdom.
