KUWAIT CITY, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL) launched on Sunday a new mechanism to preserve the archaeological sites, museums, and cultural centers during the suspension period due to the spread of coronavirus.

Bader Al-Duwaish, NCCAL's Assistant Secretary-General for Cultural Affairs, said in a press statement that a team from the Department of Antiquities and Museums was formed to preserve the valuable properties and objects in the heritage sites, museums, and cultural centers.

"We have taken inspection tours to museums to check on them," he said.

In addition, NCCAL has agreed on regular visits to archaeological sites in Failaka island and Al-Sabiyah area, he said, indicating that the team has discovered that a number of centers and buildings need maintenance.

The council will spare no effort to preserve Kuwait's historical and national identity, he noted.

The Kuwaiti government has imposed a nationwide curfew to contain the spread of the coronavirus, it also decided to suspend work in all ministries and state agencies until May 28.

Kuwait on Sunday reported 183 new cases of COVID-19 and one more death, bringing the total infections to 3,075 and death toll to 20, the Health Ministry said in a statement. Enditem
