Roundup: More COVID-19 cases confirmed in Asia-Pacific, S.Korea turns the corner

HONG KONG, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Asia-Pacific countries kept reporting more COVID-19 cases with a sign of slowing down seen in South Korea as no new domestic cases was reported for the first time since the outbreak, while South Asian and Southeast Asian countries like Bangladesh, Indonesia and the Philippines, are still seeing accelerating increase.

South Korea reported four more cases of the COVID-19, all imported from overseas, compared to 24 hours ago as midnight Thursday local time, raising the total number of infections to 10,765.

The daily caseload hovered around 10 for the 12th straight day. Local infection recorded zero for the first time in 75 days since Feb. 15.

Bangladesh confirmed 564 new cases, dipping slightly from Wednesday's high of 641.

A total of 564 new positive cases and 5 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours in Bangladesh, taking the total number to 7,667 and the death toll to 168.

The Indonesian government on Thursday announced 347 new infections, bringing the total number of infections to 10,118.

Eight new deaths were reported, taking the total number of fatalities to 792, the highest in Southeast Asia.

In the Philippines, The number of coronavirus disease cases has climbed to 8,488, as 276 new cases were reported on Thursday.

Ten more patients have died from the disease, bringing the death toll to 568, and 20 more COVID-19 patients have recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,043.

Afghanistan recorded 232 new cases within the past 24 hours, bringing the total tally to 2,171, according to the country's Ministry of Public Health.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia totaled 6,002 after 57 new cases were recorded.

A total of 84 cases have been released, bringing the total cured and discharged to 4,171 or 69.5 percent of all cases.

Vietnam reported no new case of COVID-19 infection on Thursday morning, the 14th day in a row.

The country has confirmed 270 COVID-19 cases so far, as its most recent case was detected on April 24 and the latest case was reported on April 16.

Laos detected no new case of COVID-19 for 18 consecutive days, with the total number of confirmed cases remaining unchanged at 19.

Laos announced its first two COVID-19 confirmed cases on March 24.

The Maldives has confirmed its first COVID-19 related death after an 83-year-old patient passed away from breathing difficulties.

So far, 280 infections have been confirmed, and the country is currently under a state of public health emergency.

India reported 66 new deaths, and 1,263 new cases since Wednesday evening across the country, taking the number of deaths to 1,074 and total cases to 33,050.

New Zealand confirmed three new confirmed COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, with the total number of confirmed and probable infections being 1,476 in the country.

There is no more death reported as the death toll remained at 19 in the country. Enditem
