KHARTOUM, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Sudan on Saturday announced 91 new infections with COVID-19, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 533.

"Five new deaths have also been recorded, bringing the death toll to 36," said Sudan's Health Ministry in a statement.

And seven more cases have recovered, taking the total number of recoveries in the country to 46, it noted.

According to Sudan's health ministry statistics, 14 out of Sudan's 18 states have registered COVID-19 cases.

In the meantime, the Sudanese police intensified measures to prevent violation of curfew in Khartoum State, the worst-hit area in Sudan.

"We have started deploying an additional force of 1,365 policemen at more than 200 checkpoints in Khartoum," said Omer Abdel-Majid, Sudanese police spokesman.

The move came in response to instructions by Khartoum's security committee to prevent violations of the curfew imposed on the capital to combat coronavirus.

On April 18, the capital Khartoum entered into a full curfew as part of measures to stem the virus spread. Enditem
