SARAJEVO, May 8 (Xinhua) -- The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) allowed the international airport in Tuzla, which has been closed for passenger transport due to COVID-19 pandemic, to temporarily open in order to facilitate the flight of 106 BiH citizens to Belgium, state-own media FENA reported on Friday.

The group of construction workers, working for the Belgian company "Bam Interbuild", will fly on Saturday from the airport in Tuzla, some 160 km north from capital Sarajevo, to the Belgian city of Bruges. The workers have Belgian working permits as well as written guarantees from Belgian authorities that they will not have to undergo isolation treatment, and will be allowed to start working immediately upon their arrival.

All four international airports in BiH have been closed for passenger transport since March 30. Exceptions have been made on only two occasions since, when Sarajevo airport was allowed to facilitate two repatriation flights from Britain and Turkey with BiH citizens onboard. This one-time exception was requested by the BiH Ministry of Security, and this is the first time passengers are flying out of BiH since passenger flights were banned.

BiH has recently softened some of the COVID-19 protective measures. However, borders are still closed for passenger transport with few exceptions.

So far, BiH has reported 2,056 COVID-19 cases and 98 deaths. Enditem
