Live COVID-19 updates: Bangladesh reports 19 new deaths of COVID-19

BEIJING, May 13 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh reported 19 new deaths of COVID-19 patients Wednesday, the country's biggest daily increase since March.

"Another 19 COVID-19 deaths including 12 men and seven women were confirmed, bringing the total number of fatalities in the country since March 18 to 269," Nasima Sultana, a senior Health Ministry official, told an online media briefing in Dhaka Wednesday.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia reported 37 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday bringing the national total to 6,779, the Health Ministry said.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said at a press briefing that of the new cases, 33 cases were local transmissions and four imported.

MACAO -- China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) sent a medical emergency team to Algeria on Wednesday as a part of China's national effort to help the North African country fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

"We will use our experience and expertise gained in Macao's anti-pandemic efforts to help Algerian counterparts and people," the team leader Miu Chi Fong said at Macao International Airport before the departure.

KIEV -- Ukraine added 402 COVID-19 cases Wednesday, the country's health ministry said. As of Wednesday the country has tallied 16,425 cases, 439 fatalities and 3,716 recoveries.

Since the pandemic started, 1,130 children and 3,208 health workers have been infected.

TEHRAN -- The data released on novel coronavirus impacts in Iran on Wednesday registered 50 new deaths over past 24 hours, bringing the total to 6,783 since the disease outbreak in the country in late February, according to state TV.

During an online press conference, Kianush Jahanpur, head of Public Relations and Information Center of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, confirmed 1,958 new infection cases, taking the total cases to 112,725.

MOSCOW -- Russia has confirmed 10,028 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, raising its total number of infections to 242,271, its coronavirus response center said in a statement Wednesday.

WASHINGTON -- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday said it has received Chilean authorities' request for a 23.8 billion U.S. dollars Flexible Credit Line (FCL) over two years.

"The International Monetary Fund Executive Board met today in an informal session to discuss a request from the Chilean authorities for a two-year arrangement under the Flexible Credit Line (FCL) with the IMF," the Washington-based institution said in a statement, adding that the Chilean authorities intend to treat the credit line as precautionary.
