BEIJING, May 14 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7 jolted Southeast of Easter Island around 23:55 on Wednesday (0555 GMT on Thursday), the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The epicenter, with a depth of 10.0 km, was initially determined to be at 35.7934 degrees south latitude and 102.8879 degrees west longitude.
Easter Island, known for its giant stone-carved heads facing out to sea, is located at the southernmost point of the Polynesian Triangle in the South Pacific, and is considered one of the world's remotest inhabited regions. Enditem
