LUSAKA, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Zambia discharged 105 COVID-19 patients from isolation facilities in the last 24 hours after they tested negative twice, authorities said on Thursday.

This brought the total number of patients discharged to 302 since the country recorded its first case on March 18.

Zambia National Public Health Institute Director Victor Mukonka said the country reported 34 new cases following 418 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

The official said people need to find a balance between getting back to normal and avoid new infections, adding that scientific evidence has shown that the disease will be prevalent in Zambia for a long time.

About 21 districts in six provinces have so far reported cases. The total cumulative figure stood at 866. Enditem
