PHNOM PENH, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia has decided to suspend the recruitment of new civil servants for 2020 due to the impact of COVID-19, Civil Service Minister Prum Sokha said on Thursday.
He said Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen allowed the suspension until further notice.
Ministries, national institutions, and sub-national administrations, that have not yet recruited new civil servants for 2020, must temporarily suspend their recruitment, Sokha said in a statement.
The move was to reduce staffing costs during 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, he said.
The Southeast Asian country has so far reported a total of 122 COVID-19 cases and all of the patients have recovered.
The kingdom has detected no new cases of the virus for more than a month; however, health authorities continue urging people to remain extra-vigilant to avoid a second wave of infections. Enditem
