ISTANBUL -- At least one worker was killed and five others were injured on Saturday when a fire erupted at a construction zone in Istanbul, local media said.

The fire broke out at a container of the workers in the building site of Istanbul Finance Center at the Umraniye district on the Asian part of the city, the Ihlas news agency reported. (Turkey-Fire)

DAMASCUS -- At least seven Syrian rebels were killed on Saturday in battles in Libya, a Syrian war monitor reported.

The rebels were killed on several battlefields in Libya, as many more have been captivated, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. (Syria-Battle)

YAOUNDE -- A senior official of Cameroon National Gendarmerie said on Saturday 46 bags of marijuana estimated at 1,000 kg have been seized in the country's restive Northwest region.

After receiving a tip-off, the gendarmes in the region's chief town of Bamenda, seized the marijuana that were disguised as foodstuffs loaded on a vehicle destined for commercial capital, Douala, Northwest Legion commander, colonel Raymond Boum Bissoue told reporters. (Cameroon-Marijuana)

ACCRA -- Ghana's number of COVID-19 cases has increased to 6,617, with 131 more cases confirmed as of Saturday, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has said.

The GHS said in its latest update that the number of recovered cases has risen by 21, bringing the number of recoveries to 1,978, while the death toll stays at 31. (Ghana-COVID-19)

ISLAMABAD -- An inquiry has been launched into Friday's plane crash that left 97 people killed in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi, the country's aviation minister said on Saturday.

Apart from the investigation board formed by the government, a team from the aircraft's makers will also visit the crash site for investigation, and the plane's black box will be sent for decoding to further help the probe, Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan told a media briefing, adding that the report will be made public within three months after which stern action will be taken against those found guilty.
