Tokyo stocks open higher on hopes for Japan's full economic restart

TOKYO, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened sharply higher Monday as investor sentiment was bolstered by hopes Japan's economy will soon be fully reopened with the final lifting of the state of emergency still in place for Tokyo and surrounding regions.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 315.60 points, or 1.55 percent, from Friday to 20,703.76.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 19.96 points, or 1.35 percent, at 1,497.76.

Air and marine transportation, and steel and iron issues comprised those that advanced the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
