BUJUMBURA -- Provisional results show Burundian ruling party's Evariste Ndayishimiye wins the presidential election held on May 20, the country's electoral body said here on Monday.

Ndayishimiye from the ruling National Council for the Defense of Democracy-Forces for the Defense of Democracy won 68.72 percent of votes in the presidential election, followed by National Council for Liberty's Agathon Rwasa who got 24.19 percent of votes, said the National Independent Electoral Commission.

Burundi voters went to the polls last Wednesday to elect a new president, members of the National Assembly, and district councillors.(Burundi-Presidential Election)

TOKYO -- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Monday lifted the state of emergency in Japan in the five remaining prefectures, including Tokyo, as the spread of the novel coronavirus has been brought under control.

The prefectures involved are Tokyo, Chiba, Kanagawa, Saitama and Hokkaido.

"Today the government will lift the state of emergency across the nation. We've set some of the most strict criteria in the world to lift the declaration, and we concluded that prefectures across the country have met that standard," the Japanese leader told a press conference.(Japan-State Of Emergency-COVID-19)

BEIJING -- China's top legislature said Monday it will prioritize legislation on public health this year.

In its annual work report, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) said it plans to revise the Wildlife Protection Law, the Law on the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases, the Frontier Health and Quarantine Law, and the Emergency Response Law in 2020.

China currently has over 30 laws on public health. Lawmakers are expected to review and approve a biosecurity law within this year, the draft of which went through a second reading in April, and expedite revising the Wildlife Protection Law in the hope of submitting the revision for review in the latter half of the year.(China-NPC-Plenary Meeting)

NEW DELHI -- Domestic flights resumed in India on Monday two months after a nationwide lockdown was imposed on March 25, said India's Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri through a tweet.

"Today, we restart domestic flights. India's civil aviation is always on the forefront," tweeted Puri.

Flights resumed taking off and landing in all Indian states except southern state of Andhra Pradesh and eastern state of West Bengal where they will operate from Tuesday.(India-Flights-Resumption)

RAMALLAH -- The Palestinian government on Monday said it will deal with all affairs related to Gaza Strip through international third parties after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced the abolition of all agreements with Israel and the United States.

"Anything we need to send to Gaza, we will send through the International Red Cross Society and the United Nations, and in all cases, we will remain committed to our people wherever they may be," said Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Ishtaye at a press conference in Ramallah city.

Regarding the patients from Gaza who need medical care, Ishtaye said that they will be treated inside the strip, especially cancer patients, as medicine and medical equipment will be sent to the coastal enclave through the World Health Organization.(Palestine-Gaza) Enditem
