U.S. dollar edges down

NEW YORK, May 25 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar decreased slightly in late trading on Monday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, was down 0.01 percent at 99.7780.

In late New York trading, the euro closed at 1.0897 U.S. dollars, unchanged from the previous session, and the British pound increased to 1.2191 dollars from 1.2174 U.S. dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar rose to 0.6543 U.S. dollar from 0.6533 dollar.

The U.S. dollar bought 107.71 Japanese yen, higher than 107.58 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar fell to 0.9712 Swiss franc from 0.9725 Swiss franc, and it decreased to 1.3985 Canadian dollars from 1.3995 Canadian dollars.

Trading volume was relatively light on Monday with financial markets in some economies including the United States and the United Kingdom closed for public holidays. Enditem
