LOS ANGELES, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Foreign-owned enterprises (FOEs) employed 730,648 residents in the U.S. state of California in 2019, who earned an estimated 65.6 billion U.S. dollars in wages, according to a new report.
While representing just over 1.2 percent of all firms in the state, the 18,718 FOEs were estimated to create 4.9 percent of the state's employment, said the report from World Trade Center Los Angeles.
Some 21,000 jobs were created by firms from the Chinese mainland, the report added.
Across the state, retail trade, wholesale trade and manufacturing are the top industries for FOEs, with 4,109, 2,975 and 2,882 firms, respectively, the report said, adding that manufacturing is still the largest sector by employment, accounting for over a third of FOE jobs and 36.2 percent of all wages paid.
