SEOUL -- Sentiment among South Korean businesses over economic situations stayed low in May due to an economic fallout from the COVID-19 outbreak, central bank data showed Wednesday.

The business sentiment index (BSI) stood at 53 in May, up two points from the previous month, according to the Bank of Korea. The reading below 100 indicates pessimists outnumbering optimists. (South Korea-COVID-19-Business Sentiment)

KAMPALA -- Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Tuesday said that the government has injected 1 trillion shillings (about 270 million U.S. dollars) into the Uganda Development Bank to boost industrialization.

Museveni, according to a State House statement issued here, said the 270 million dollars is part of the 491.5 million dollars that Uganda borrowed from the International Monetary Fund early this month to address the "urgent balance of payments and fiscal needs" arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. NEW YORK -- U.S. stocks finished noticeably higher on Tuesday, following solid gains in the previous week.

FRANKFURT -- The coronavirus pandemic has amplified existing vulnerabilities of the financial sector and eurozone banks are likely to face significant losses, the European Central Bank (ECB) said on Tuesday.

Even as infection rates fall in many countries, the impact of the pandemic on the economy and markets has exposed and increased the existing vulnerabilities of the eurozone's financial stability, the ECB said in its biannual financial stability report. (ECB-Financial Stability) Enditem
