Live COVID-19 updates: India's COVID-19 cases surpass 150,000 mark

BEIJING, May 27 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEW DELHI -- India's federal health ministry Wednesday said that the total number of COVID-19 cases surpassed the 150,000 mark, reaching 151,767, while the latest death toll stood at 4,337.

"As on 8:00 a.m. (local time) Wednesday, 4,337 deaths related to novel coronavirus have been recorded in the country," reads information released by the ministry.

PARIS -- Global energy investment is forecast to fall by 20 percent or 400 billion U.S. dollars in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Paris-based International Energy Agency (IEA) said on Wednesday.

According to the IEA, the predicted largest decline of global energy investment in history could have "serious" side effects for energy security and clean energy transitions.

KUWAIT CITY -- Kuwait on Wednesday reported 692 new cases of COVID-19 and three more deaths, raising the tally of infections to 23,267 and the death toll to 175, the Health Ministry said in a statement.

Currently, 15,146 patients are receiving treatment, including 193 in ICU, according to the statement.

TEHRAN -- The Iranian Health Ministry on Wednesday confirmed 2,080 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 141,591, state-run IRNA news agency reported.

Over the past 24 hours, 56 more people died from the virus, raising the death toll to 7,564, said Kianush Jahanpur, head of Public Relations and Information Center of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education.

KATHMANDU -- Nepal has confirmed 114 new COVID-19 cases, highest single day spike, taking the tally to 886.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), of the total infected, 796 are male and 90 are female. Speaking at a daily media briefing on Wednesday, MoHP Spokesperson Bikash Devkota said, "699 people have been isolated and are receiving treatment in different hospitals across the country."

KIEV -- Ukraine has reported 321 new COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours, taking its total to 21,905 with 644 deaths and 7,995 recoveries, the country's health ministry said Wednesday.

Among the cases, 1,595 children and 4,241 health workers have been diagnosed with COVID-19, while 264 children and 794 health workers are among the 6,831 coronavirus patients to have been hospitalized. Enditem
