Live COVID-19 updates: UK deaths hit 37,460 as another 412 patients die

BEIJING, May 27 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

LONDON -- Another 412 COVID-19 patients have died in Britain as of Tuesday afternoon, bringing the total coronavirus-related death toll in the country to 37,460, the Department of Health and Social Care said Wednesday.

The figures include deaths in all settings, including hospitals, care homes and the wider community.

RIYADH -- Saudi Arabia announced on Wednesday the registration of 1,815 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections to 78,541 in the kingdom.

The Saudi health ministry also reported 14 more deaths from the virus in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to 425.

DOHA -- Qatar's health ministry on Wednesday announced 1,740 new infections of the novel coronavirus, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the Gulf state to 48,947.

"Some 1,439 people recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 13,283, while two died, raising the fatalities to 30," the official Qatar News Agency reported, quoting a ministry statement.

NAIROBI -- Kenya's Ministry of Health on Wednesday confirmed 123 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections to 1,471.

Mutahi Kagwe, cabinet secretary in the ministry of health, said all the positive cases are all Kenyan nationals.

"For the first time, we have hit a triple digit. This is the highest number of positive cases ever recorded in a single day since the disease was reported in the country on March 13, 2020," Kagwe told journalists in Nairobi.

BERLIN -- New infections with COVID-19 in Germany remained under last week's average as the number of confirmed cases increased by 362 within one day to 179,364, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced on Wednesday.

According to the RKI, the number of deaths from the new coronavirus in Germany increased by 47 to 8,349 on Wednesday, resulting in a fatality rate of around 4.7 percent in Germany.

BEIJING -- Chinese health authority said Wednesday that no new domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases were reported on the Chinese mainland on Tuesday.

One imported case was reported in Shanghai Tuesday, the National Health Commission said in its daily report.

NEW DELHI -- India's federal health ministry Wednesday said that the total number of COVID-19 cases surpassed the 150,000 mark, reaching 151,767, while the latest death toll stood at 4,337.

"As on 8:00 a.m. (local time) Wednesday, 4,337 deaths related to novel coronavirus have been recorded in the country," reads information released by the ministry. Enditem
