NAIROBI, May 29 (Xinhua) -- World 800-meter record holder David Rudisha of Kenya underwent an ankle surgery on Thursday in Eldoret, Kenya after fracturing his left ankle last week.

The two-time Olympic and world champion twisted his left ankle at his rural home in Kilgoris as he stepped on uneven ground during a walk. The 31-year-old is expected to be sidelined for 12 to 16 weeks.

Rudisha claimed the 800m titles at the 2011 and 2015 World Championships. He also took back-to-back victories at the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games, setting the world record of one minute, 40.91 seconds at the London Olympics in 2012. Enditem
