TRIPOLI, May 29 (Xinhua) -- The Libyan National Center for Disease Control reported six new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, raising the nationwide tally to 105 with five deaths and 41 recoveries.
The center said that it had received 269 samples of suspected coronavirus cases, among which 263 tested negative and six positive.
Additionally, the center also reported one recovery and one death over the last 24 hours.
After the UN-backed government on Wednesday extended a curfew for 10 days in its further efforts to curb the pandemic, authorities on Thursday decided to investigate the spread of the virus in the southwestern city of Sabha amid a significant increase in COVID-19 cases after residents returned from abroad.
The UN-backed government also decided to ban the entry into and exit from Sabha and imposed a 24-hour curfew for seven days starting from Thursday, in order to fight the pandemic.
Libyan nationals stranded abroad are allowed to return to the country earlier this month, after the Libyan authorities closed all borders in March as a precautionary measure.
Other anti-virus measures include banning public gatherings, closing mosques and schools, and imposing curfews. Enditem
