TIRANA, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Albania's Minister of Health and Social Protection Ogerta Manastirliu unveiled on Friday the second phase of the government's reopening strategy after more than two months of COVID-19 lockdown.

Addressing the public in a video message, Manastirliu said that from June 1, the authorities will allow the free movement of citizens and vehicles throughout the country, underlining that there will be no more "red zones" or areas with high risk of transmission.

The minister also confirmed the reopening of Albania's land borders with neighboring countries, and said that the mandatory two-week quarantine will be suspended similarly to other European countries.

The two-week quarantine will, she added, still be a requirement in certain cases by order of the health authorities in line with the criteria set by the European Center for Disease Control.

Manastirliu said that public and private nurseries and kindergartens will also reopen in compliance with the safety protocols recommended by the Technical Committee of Experts on the coronavirus situation.

The authorities will also lift restrictions for sports championships, which will be allowed to take place without the presence of the public.

From next week, the authorities will open parks, educational and cultural training centers, internet centers as well as gyms. However, public transport will continue to be closed.

"Cultural activities, cinemas, theaters, nightclubs, swimming pools, mass gatherings, weddings, conferences, public hearings, gatherings of all kinds will continue to be prohibited until further notice," Manastirliu stated.

Twenty-three new coronavirus cases have been registered in Albania in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 1,099, with 851 recoveries and 33 fatalities. Enditem
