NEW DELHI -- The total number of COVID-19 cases in India surpassed 170,000-mark, reaching 173,763 on Saturday, even as the death toll stood at 4971, said the data issued by the federal health ministry a short while ago.

As many as 265 new deaths due to COVID-19, besides fresh 7,964 positive cases were reported since Friday in the country, taking the number of deaths to 4971 and total cases to 173,763.

HONG KONG -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 jolted 193 km S of Kokopo, Papua New Guinea at 03:06:24 GMT on Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said.

WASHINGTON -- The White House has been under lockdown as protests reached the U.S. capital on Friday, the fourth day of nationwide demonstrations over the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man, in Minneapolis police custody.

Online video showed hundreds of protesters gathered in Lafayette Park just outside the White House, chanting "No justice, no peace." One protester sprayed the Freedman's Bank Building while some other protesters clashed with Secret Service personnel, witnesses said. (US-White House-Lockdown)

PHNOM PENH -- The World Bank has approved a credit of 15 million U.S. dollars for Cambodia to strengthen pre-service education system for health professionals, said its press statement on Saturday.
