Vietnam's traffic accident deaths down 14.7 pct in 5 months

HANOI, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Between January and May, as many as 5,508 traffic accidents occurred in Vietnam, killing 2,667 people, severely injuring 1,547 people and slightly injuring 2,418 others, according to the country's Traffic Police Department on Tuesday.

The numbers of traffic accidents, deaths, severe injuries and slight injuries dropped by 18.7 percent, 14.7 percent, 23.6 percent and 25.1 percent respectively against the same period last year.

On average, in the first five months of this year, Vietnam saw 36 traffic accidents each day which claimed 17 lives and injured 26 people.

More than 17,600 traffic accidents occurred in Vietnam in 2019, killing over 7,600 people, severely injuring some 13,600 people and lightly hurting about 8,500 others, according to the department. Enditem
