NEW YORK, June 2 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks opened higher on Tuesday as investors were assessing economy reopening amid civil unrest.
Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 140.16 points, or 0.55 percent, to 25,615.18. The S&P 500 increased 10.44 points, or 0.34 percent, to 3,066.17. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 12.10 points, or 0.13 percent, to 9,564.15.
Of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors, energy gained more than 1.5 percent in morning trading, outpacing the rest. Health care, however, dipped 0.4 percent, the worst-performing group.
Riots have continued in cities across the United States, about one week after the police killing of the African American George Floyd.
Investors closely monitored the riots as the combination of riots on top of a pandemic could cause lasting economic scars, experts noted.
U.S. equities reversed earlier losses to close with modest gains on Monday. Enditem
