DHAKA -- Bangladesh reported 2,695 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, dipping from Tuesday's high of 2,911.

"A total of 2,695 new COVID-19 positive cases and 37 deaths including 28 men and nine women were reported in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh," Senior Health Ministry official Nasima Sultana told a media briefing on Wednesday afternoon in Dhaka. (Bangladesh-COVID-19)

SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir -- Three militants were killed Wednesday in a gunfight with government forces in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

KABUL -- The Afghan National Police (ANP) has arrested 17 terrorists for conducting bomb attacks in Kabul, the country's Ministry of Interior said Wednesday.

"Over the past few weeks, ANP has managed to arrest 17 mine planters and detect and defuse 10 rounds of roadside mines and improvised bombs prepared by terrorists for explosions in different locations of the capital," the ministry said in a statement posted on line. (Afghanistan-Terrorists)

GARDEZ, Afghanistan -- Five Afghan police, including a district police chief, were killed during a Taliban attack and ensuing bomb blast in eastern Paktia province on Tuesday night, provincial police confirmed on Wednesday.

"Mohammad Homayoun, police chief of Sayid Karam district, and one policeman were killed after a police vehicle was struck by a Taliban roadside bomb blast in surrounding areas of Sayid Karam last night," Nizami from the provincial police told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Taliban) Enditem
