NAIROBI, June 3 (Xinhua) -- FIBA Africa has confirmed that they are on schedule to stage the second qualification window for the FIBA AfroBasket 2021 in November.

"There might be an overload of competitions in Africa given that the second qualification window for the FIBA AfroBasket 2021 is due to take place in November," FIBA Africa President Anibal Manave said on Wednesday.

He said it was his objectives to see, in eight years' time, African national teams competing for a medal in the World Cup and the Olympics.

Kenya will face off against former African champions Angola, Senegal and Mozambique in the two-leg qualifiers slated for November.

Kenya's coach Cliff Owuor has started training sessions for his team and hopes to introduce new tactics and training schedules to be able to catch up on time missed due to COVID-19.

"A tournament of this size needs every player to be fit. I have come up with another training schedule for them. All players must be actively engaged so that by the time we start, they will be fit," coach Owuor stated on Wednesday in Nairobi.

"We discussed Angola at length since they remain the favorites. It also came to our attention that they have changed coaches and are in a transition," he admitted.

Assistant captain Tyler Ongwae, based in Denmark, urged his team-mates to continue working hard on their own until it is safe to play together.

Kenya is mulling over staging a four-nation basketball competition with the national teams from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Uganda as part of its build-up to the qualifiers for FIBA Afro-basketball championships in 2021. Enditem
