The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 17.25 points, or 0.08 percent, from Wednesday to 22,631.01.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 0.22 point, or 0.01 percent, at 1,598.86.
