Israel exploits U.S. partiality, coronavirus to impose annexation plan: Palestinian official

RAMALLAH, June 5 (Xinhua) -- A senior Palestinian official on Friday accused Israel of exploiting the U.S. partiality and the coronavirus pandemic to impose new facts on the ground.
The Israeli annexation plan "is not new," said Hanan Ashrawi, a member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee, in a press statement after having an online meeting with British Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa Affairs James Cleverly.
"Israel has been implementing its plans of annexing Palestinian lands for a very long time," she added.
The Israeli government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is planning to annex the Jordan Valley and impose Israeli sovereignty on Jewish settlements in the West Bank starting July.
Ashrawi called on the British government to recognize the state of Palestine and implement the British parliament's overwhelming decision that supported the two-state solution in solving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
She urged the world to form an international coalition to preserve the international law and end the U.S. monopoly of the peace process.
During the online meeting, Cleverly described the Israeli annexation of Palestinian lands as "a big obstacle" that "may have a dangerous influence on the track of a real peace process," according to the statement. Enditem
