BEIJING, June 7 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MOSCOW -- Russia has confirmed 8,984 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking its total to 467,673, the country's coronavirus response center said in a statement Sunday.

The death toll grew by 134 to 5,859, while 226,731 people have recovered, including 5,343 over the last 24 hours, according to the statement.

BEIJING -- China will make its COVID-19 vaccine a global public good when it is ready for application after successful research and clinical trials, a senior Chinese official said Sunday.

Wang Zhigang, minister of science and technology, said at a press conference in Beijing that international cooperation should be strengthened in vaccine development, clinical trials and application.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia is further easing restrictive measures to allow nearly all social, education, commercial activities to resume since the latest figure suggests that the COVID-19 outbreak in the country is under control, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said on Sunday.

In a televised speech, Muhyiddin announced that the restrictions under the movement control order would be further relaxed from June 10 to give the public greater freedom while keeping the outbreak in the country under control.

TEHRAN -- Iran's confirmed coronavirus cases rose to 171,789 on Sunday after an overnight registration of 2,364 new infections, official IRNA news agency reported.

At his daily briefing, Kianush Jahanpur, head of Public Relations and Information Center of Iran's health ministry, said out of the new cases in the past 24 hours, 648 have been hospitalized.

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases rose 672 within one day to 31,186 in Indonesia, with the death toll adding by 50 to 1,851, a health ministry official told a press conference here on Sunday.

Achmad Yurianto said that 591 more people had been discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 10,498.

MANILA -- The number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines rose to 21,895 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 555 new infections on Sunday.

The DOH said in a daily bulletin that the number of recoveries further climbed to 4,530 after 89 more patients were healed. Enditem
