ANKARA -- A principle agreement has been reached with Russia on the supply of the second batch of Russian made S-400 air defense system and talks continue for technical details, Turkey's Defense Industries Chair Ismail Demir said on Monday.

"We have a principle agreement on the supply of the second system. We are talking about technical details. There is no question mark about supply," he told NTV broadcaster. (Turkey-Russia-S-400)

LONDON -- British oil giant BP announced Monday that it will cut around 10,000 jobs mostly by the end of this year as the company was hit heavily by the coronavirus pandemic.

"We will now begin a process that will see close to 10,000 people leaving BP - most by the end of this year," said Bernard Looney, the chief executive, in a public statement, adding that "the majority of people affected will be in office-based jobs." (UK-BP-Job)

DAR ES SALAAM -- The World Bank on Monday forecast Tanzania's economic growth to slow sharply in 2020 to 2.5 percent from the 6.9 percent growth the government reported in 2019 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

BERLIN -- A survey published by the German digital association Bitkom on Monday said 73 percent of German companies with 20 or more employees considered artificial intelligence (AI) the most important future technology.

However, only six percent of German companies used AI in their own businesses, while every fifth company was planning to use AI or was discussing the topic, according to the survey conducted among more than 600 companies. (Germany-Bitkom-AI)

BERLIN -- The industrial production of Germany, Europe's largest economy, plummeted by 17.9 percent in April from the previous month and even 25.3 percent compared with the same month last year, according to provisional figures published by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Monday.
