ATHENS, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Greek authorities announced on Monday that 97 new COVID-19 infections and two fatalities were registered since Thursday.

The total number of confirmed cases now stands at 3,049, including 182 deaths since Feb. 26 when the first infection was diagnosed, according to the National Public Health Organization.

Greece was in full lockdown from March 23 to May 4 and in the past month restrictions in financial and social life have been gradually lifted.

Schools and most businesses have restarted, while from June 15 the country has been getting ready to welcome the first tourists after several months at the airports of Athens and Thessaloniki.

Greece has given the green light to 29 countries with positive epidemiological data, including China, to start sending travelers who will be subject only to sample testing for the novel coronavirus.

From June 15 till at least June 30 all other visitors arriving from countries which are on the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) list of affected areas with a high risk of transmission of COVID-19, will have to be tested upon arrival and spend at least one night at a designated hotel at the Greek state's expenses.

As of July 1, international flights will be allowed into all Greek airports and there will be sample testing for travelers. Enditem
