Police discover nearly 5.5 tons of drug in Afghanistan's Kunduz province

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's counter-narcotic police in crackdown on illicit drug and smugglers discovered 5,474 kg illicit drugs including opium poppy and the seeds of hashish in the northern Kunduz province, provincial police spokesman Hajratullah Akbari said Wednesday.

The operation was launched on Tuesday night and the contraband was found in a shop and four persons had been arrested, the official added.

Police have also arrested six more people on charge of involvement in drug smuggling from the eastern Nangarhar, western Farah and the northern Parwan provinces over the past 24 hours, said a statement of the Interior Ministry. Enditem
