TOKYO, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened sharply higher Tuesday, following Wall Street's overnight rebound after the U.S. Federal Reserve said it would start buying corporate bonds to help provide economic relief to businesses hurt by the pandemic.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 631.26 points, or 2.93 percent, from Monday to 22,162.21.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 36.21 points, or 2.37 percent, at 1,566.99.
Iron and steel, marine transportation and air transportation issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
